A range of activities are available at various and appropriate times during the school year. These include a variety of sports, drama, cooking , dance, art, cycling proficiency and French. Study support is also offered at different times of the year. See the blocks below for some of the extra curricular opportunities we provide.
Note- information regarding new clubs and activities will be given out by teachers prior to them commencing. If you would like information regarding ongoing Sports clubs please ask to see Mrs Jones at the office.
Every Wednesday, for 3:15- 4:15, up to 25 children have the opportunity to develop their skills with professional coaches from the Martin Gray Football Academy.
Around once a month, we attend competitive fixtures at King James Academy or Bishop Barrington school where we play in a league against 11 other Bishop Auckland primary schools.
On top of this, our lunchtime supervisors and play leaders work with those children who do not attend after school football to provide them the opportunity to improve as players.
Tag Rugby and Gymnastics
The Autumn term PE curriculum has a strong focus on invasion games and gymnastics. We support this outside of school time with professional coaching run by John King.
The extra curricular sessions allow children to develop a greater interest and understanding of the games they enjoy. It also helps to prepare them for the Autumn festivals we attend in Tag Rugby and the following term in Gymnastics.
This year we lucky enough to get a specialist coach from Bishop Barrington Table Tennis club to come to our school to coach table tennis for 8 weeks.
We carry on with Gymnastics coaching in Spring term which leads on to a Level 2 Gymnastics competition.
We give the children a fantastic opportunity to learn a new skill which again leads on to a Dance Festival.
Children get to practice skills they have learned in curriculum time and use these skills in a more competitive situation.
We were very lucky this year to offer the children a chance to learn a completely new sport in the form of American football.
Two experienced coaches from Durham visited our school to offer a taster session for Y5 and Y6 and then went on to offer an After school club for Y2 -Y6.

Prince Bishops' PE ethos is one of complete inclusion; we believe in the benefit of activity for every child. Mrs Jones runs a non sport-specific after school club which focuses on games and movement. The children involved have had great fun taking part this term.
Tennis and Cricket
During the Summer term both Tennis and Cricket coaching are on offer to Y3 - Y6 children. This has been opened up to Y2 children.
We have also offered rounders and Baseball.
COMMUNITY SPORTS CLUBS.
As well as our fantastic choice of after school sports clubs provided by our school on site we also encourage children to join various sports clubs in our community.
Below are some of the details of a selection of activities on offer in our area.
On top of high quality teaching in class, interventions in curriculum time and homework to reinforce concepts, we are implementing after school support clubs for maths in specific year groups across the school.
You will receive a letter with a consent slip to return prior to the sessions commencing.
Mrs Hayward provides our budding artists with the opportunity to explore their creativity and use apply new techniques in her after school art club. So fat this year, the group have used glass paints to enhance the windows in the garden as well as capturing the atmospheric sky using wax, pastilles and inks.
